๐ Italy
Lago delle Locce is a glacial lake above Macugnaga in the Anzasca Valley, beneath the eastern face of Monte Rosa. At around 2,200 metres, it occupies a rocky basin near Alpe Pedriola and the Locce glacier, with surrounding moraines revealing how ice has shaped this high mountain landscape. Its blue-green water contrasts with loose grey stones, rugged slopes and the snow and ice of the Monte Rosa massif. In photographs, the lake provides a distinct foreground to the towering mountain backdrop, making the contrast between the small basin and the vast alpine wall especially striking.
