Lækjavík is a small bay on the exposed coast southwest of Djúpivogur, along the Ring Road linking the Eastfjords with the Höfn area. Here the road is squeezed between the North Atlantic and steep, dark mountains, giving the shoreline a strikingly compressed sense of scale. Black sand and shingle, pale lines of surf, weathered rocks and angular slopes form the recognizable scene; clear conditions reveal the mountain ridges, while low cloud reduces the view to layered bands of charcoal, green and white. Shifting coastal light and sea spray accentuate the textures of the beach and surrounding slopes.
