Lac de Moiry is a high-altitude reservoir above Grimentz, at the head of the Val de Moiry in Valais’s Anniviers valley. Held by the curved concrete Moiry Dam at about 2,250 metres, it forms part of the region’s hydroelectric landscape while retaining a distinctly alpine character. Glacial sediment gives the water its striking turquoise tone, framed by dark slopes, pale rock and the peaks surrounding the Moiry Glacier at the southern end. From the dam crest, the contrast between the engineered arch, the deep valley below and the long ribbon of water is especially graphic; farther along the shore, the lake’s color, scree textures and lingering snowfields create the recognizable view. The access road from Grimentz is seasonal because of winter snow.
