Lac d’Annecy fills a glacial basin beside Annecy in Haute-Savoie, with the city and its canals at the northern outlet and Alpine ridges enclosing the water to the east and west. Its clarity reflects a long-running effort to divert wastewater from the lake, making environmental protection part of its modern identity. From Annecy’s waterfront, the view opens south across blue-green water toward steep limestone peaks; calm conditions bring crisp mountain reflections, while sailing boats and summer swimmers add scale and movement. Farther down the western shore, the Château de Duingt occupies a narrow peninsula, creating one of the lake’s most recognizable silhouettes against the mountains.
