Matera is a city located in the region of Basilicata, in the south of Italy. It is an incredibly old city, with some parts of it dating back to the Palaeolithic period. It is known for its well-preserved old town, made entirely of tiny adorable homes carved directly into the cliffs and rocky spires of the region. A stroll through this area will transport you back to thousands of years ago as you explore the little roads and pathways.

Non-photographers should also check out the area's many old churches and cathedrals interspersed throughout the city. From the Romanic Cathedral of Matera to the Baroque Church of Saint Joseph and the Ancient Church of S. Pietro Caveoso, there is no shortage of breathtakingly old structures to explore. The city also offers a wealth of museums such as the Museo delle Arti e Tradizioni Popolari, which displays the area's rich culture and history, and the MURAM or Museo del Territorio di Matera, which boasts a stunning stone-uncovered archaeological site from the Baroque period. Whether you're interested in photography or history, Matera makes for a fascinating destination. Come explore the winding cobblestone streets, climb the steep steps carved into the cliffs, and marvele at the ancient churches and homes that the city has to offer!

In the middle of the way to the top we can find the hole, a beautiful landscape in the middle of the mountain
To get there you must ask for directions at the refuge because it is a high difficulty trail.
