La Goulette Port is the main Tunisian port and is located just north of the capital Tunis. The port is made up of four piers and has been designed to accommodate modern vessels. It is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean and is a major hub for international trade. It is also the site for many cruise ship excursions. The port has an attractive waterfront area, lined with small craft and commercial fishing boats, and a vibrant souk (market) that capitalizes on its close proximity to Tunis. The waterfront often serves as a backdrop for many different kinds of water activities, from fishing and yachting to water ski-ing. There is a thriving cafe culture along the sidewalks that overlook the Mediterranean Sea, making the port a great place to relax and take in some of the culture of Tunis.
