La Cathédrale Saint-Pierre is a medieval Roman Catholic cathedral in Beauvais, France. Built between 1225 and 1521, it is the world’s tallest complete cathedral at 153 metres in height. Its spire is the world’s tallest and was originally built in 1573, but was destroyed during a storm in 1666. The huge nave is the widest Gothic nave in the world at 48.5 metres and features beautiful stained glass windows, high vaulted ceilings and an ornately painted 17th century organ. The interior also contains numerous sculptures and artwork, some of which date back to the Middle Ages and references to Joan of Arc. Visiting the cathedral is an absolute must-see in Beauvais, and a visit to the Tour de l’Horloge (bell tower) should also be made.
