The Catatumbo Lightning in Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela is one of the world's most remarkable natural phenomena. Known locally as "the beacon of Maracaibo," the Catatumbo Lightning is a nearly-constant storm system of persistent lightning in the same spot - a narrow marshy area of the Sierra de Perijá mountains by the lake. It erupts most nights, with lightning sometimes happening up to 250 times an hour. This striking, intensively electric storm is almost completely unsurpassed in its uniqueness, and is an amazing sight that you won’t see anywhere else in the world.
