Kunstmuseum Stuttgart is the city’s museum of modern and contemporary art, occupying a prominent glass cube on Kleiner Schlossplatz beside the central Schlossplatz. Opened in 2005, the building by Hascher Jehle Architektur combines transparent upper levels with extensive galleries below the square. Its collection is especially associated with Otto Dix, whose sharply observed portraits and social criticism form a major strand of the museum’s identity. Visually, the cube shifts with the city: by day its façade reflects surrounding streets and sky, while after dark the illuminated stone interior appears through the glass, creating a striking geometric presence in Stuttgart’s center.
