The Church of the Holy Spirit stands on the western side of Toruń’s Old Town Market Square, facing the Gothic town hall. Built in the mid-18th century for the city’s Lutheran community, it became a Catholic church under Jesuit care after the Second World War. Originally constructed without a tower, it gained its prominent vertical landmark in the late 19th century. Its pale Baroque façade contrasts with the town hall’s red brick, bringing two distinct periods of Toruń’s architecture into the same view. Across the square, the tower rises above the closely packed historic townhouses, while the church’s orderly frontage provides a quieter counterpoint to the Gothic skyline. Inside, Rococo furnishings and richly carved wooden doors reveal a more decorative side of the building.
