Korčula Town occupies a compact fortified peninsula on the northeastern coast of Korčula island, facing the Pelješac Channel. Its stone-walled old town reflects centuries of Venetian influence, with narrow lanes arranged in a distinctive herringbone pattern around a central spine. St Mark’s Cathedral, built in Gothic and Renaissance forms from pale local stone, anchors a dense roofscape of terracotta tiles, bell towers and weathered façades. From the waterfront and nearby viewpoints, the recognizable scene combines medieval towers, clustered red roofs, blue channel waters and the mountainous Pelješac Peninsula beyond. Korčula is also associated with Moreška, a traditional sword dance that remains an important expression of the town’s cultural identity.
