📍 Denmark
Kongens Nytorv (lit. King’s New Square) is one of the most iconic public squares in Copenhagen, Denmark. Located between the harbor and Østergade, the area draws in locals and tourists alike due to its many attractions.

The centerpiece of the square is the equestrian statue of King Christian V which was erected in 1688 and portrays the king in coronation garb. The National Bank of Denmark and the Royal Theater are both adjacent to the area and shopaholics can find many luxury stores and restaurants nearby. The Royal Theatre Opera House is one of the most popular attractions at Kongens Nytorv as it regularly features some of the best performances of both operas and ballets. During the summer, the square acts as a gathering point and often hosts special events such as the monthly Sunday Market, circuses and concerts. If you’re an architecture enthusiast, the area will be of great interest as the historical buildings are part of the city’s oldest sections; some of them date as far back as 1690. Many of the buildings have a Baroque-infused Neoclassical architecture and are worth admiring. Visitors can take a stroll to the Copenhagen Harbor promenade which is lined with a number of seafood restaurants, cafes and bars. Additionally, the nearby Nyhavn harbor can be reached via a short walk and you can explore the 1700s wooden-facade buildings, colorful canal boats, and small restaurants along its canal.
