Knyaginya Maria Luiza Boulevard
📍 Bulgaria
Knyaginya Maria Luiza Boulevard is a major central Sofia axis running north from the historic core toward the Central Railway Station. Named for Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, the first wife of Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, it passes one of the city’s richest layers of urban history: the Banya Bashi Mosque, Sofia Central Market Hall and the former Central Mineral Baths stand close together near Serdika. Farther north, the boulevard crosses the landmark Lions’ Bridge. Tram lines, overhead wires and steady street life contrast with domes, a minaret, ornate façades and later commercial buildings, creating views that express Sofia’s mix of Ottoman heritage, royal-era civic architecture and modern infrastructure.
