The Klotild Palaces are a matching pair of monumental buildings near Ferenciek tere on Budapest’s Pest side, framing the approach to Elizabeth Bridge. Commissioned by Archduchess Clotilde and designed by Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl at the turn of the 20th century, they reflect the ambitions of a rapidly expanding capital. Despite their name, they were conceived as apartment and commercial buildings rather than royal residences. Their neo-Baroque façades combine warm-toned brick with pale stone ornament, elaborate balconies and prominent corner towers. Seen from the bridge approach, the two buildings form a balanced architectural gateway; closer views reveal the contrast between richly sculpted stonework and the repeating windows above the street. The southern building is now known as Matild Palace.
