Klausenstrasse
📍 From Viewpoint, Switzerland
Klausenstrasse is a mountain pass road that runs near and through the municipality of Spiringen in the Swiss Alps of Switzerland. It is one of the most scenic routes in the Alps and one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland. The road was first constructed in 1824 as a carriage route to connect cantons of Uri and Schwyz, and is still open to motor vehicles today. This 44km road winds through the breathtaking Swiss Alps, with winding hairpins and narrow tunnels carved out of rock, along with magnificent waterfalls, forests, glaciers and mountain peaks in the distant backdrop. Even though there are no rugged mountain trails here, the breathtaking views on the drive make the journey just as incredible, and the many roadside restaurants and villages provide a perfect opportunity for some rest and refreshment.
