Кирха Святого Адальберта / Kirkha Svyatogo Adalberta
📍 From Водонапорная башня / Water Tower, Russia
Kirkha Svyatogo Adalberta is the former Lutheran Church of St Adalbert, now the Russian Orthodox Transfiguration Cathedral, standing within the historic center of Zelenogradsk. Built in the late 19th century when the Baltic resort was known as Cranz, it reflects the East Prussian layer of the town’s past and its later cultural transformation. The red-brick Neo-Gothic exterior is defined by pointed-arch windows, buttresses, steep rooflines, and a tall square bell tower that rises above the surrounding low buildings. Its strong verticals and patterned masonry are especially distinctive in street-level compositions, while the change from Lutheran church to Orthodox cathedral gives the architecture a broader historical meaning.
