King John's Castle is a 13th-century castle located in the city of Limerick, Ireland. It is situated on the banks of the River Shannon and offers a unique view of the countryside. The castle, built in the early 1200s, is an imposing three-storey structure surrounded by a rugged wall and featuring a prominent, stepped turret. The castle is now a popular tourist attraction, and visitors can explore the restored interior, including the Keep, great hall and banqueting hall, and some of the lodgings. Its main entrance has two guardrooms and a main gate which can be approached by a modern wooden drawbridge over a dry moat. Guided tours are available, and visitors can also explore the battlements, historic galleries and battlements walk. A museum contains the treasury, prison and commemorative exhibits.
