It is located on on the hills of the city, near the University of Kyiv, and dedicated to Hetman Ivan Mazepa, a distinguished political, military and church figure, who was an important statesman of the Cossack Hetmanate in the late 17th century. The statue is made of bronze and granite and depicts Mazepa with a horse rearing up against the wind. Standing tall at 8.5 meters, it's one of the largest monuments in the city, and it offers a great view of the cityscape.
