📍 From Portage into Beer Lake, Canada
The Winnipeg River flows through the western end of Lake of the Woods, in Ontario, Canada. It is located north of the Whiteshell Provincial Park and offers breathtaking views of the lake and the forests that adorn its banks. A great spot to explore while in the area is the river’s Zig Zag Rapids, a five-legged set of fast-flowing rapids which are one of the most popular spots for whitewater kayakers. The area is well known for its opportunities for fishing, including catches of Northern pike, walleye and muskie. For the daring, there is the possibility of golfing and windsurfing, or if you are in the mood for something less adventurous, you can enjoy the gorgeous views and trails. There are plenty of campgrounds along the river and its banks, as well as accommodation options in the cities of Kenora and Dryden. No matter what kind of activities you end up choosing, the Winnipeg River is a sure bet to provide a memorable stay.
