Karesuando Church, or Karesuando Kyrka, is located in Norrbottens län, Sweden and is the oldest building in Lapland. Founded during the 15th century, its history is a symbol of faith in a region with its own unique culture, influenced by Nordic and Indigenous Sami customs. The church was built in traditional Lapland style, using spruce timber logs and a turf roof. Inside, there is fine woodwork, including a magnificent golden altar and pulpit. Other interior features include woodcarvings, textiles and a 19th-century chandelier. The building is also famous for its unique oculus window, which is said to let the church breathe in air. Karesuando is a place of beauty and peace in an otherwise wild and untamed place, and visiting it is sure to give an experience of true Lapland and its many stories.
