Karasu Vadisi is the valley of the Karasu River around İliç in Erzincan Province, eastern Türkiye. The Karasu is one of the two principal headstreams of the Euphrates, connecting this mountain landscape to a river system central to the history of Mesopotamia. Around İliç, steep, rocky slopes frame the river corridor, while the railway between Erzincan and Divriği follows sections of the valley. River bends, exposed rock faces and the railway’s slender line make the landscape recognizable, with the contrast between transport infrastructure and the surrounding mountains revealing the terrain’s scale.
