📍 From Sveti Sava Park, Serbia
The Karađorđe Monument stands on Belgrade’s Vračar plateau, near the Church of Saint Sava and the National Library of Serbia. It honors Đorđe Petrović, known as Karađorđe, who led the First Serbian Uprising against Ottoman rule in 1804 and founded the Karađorđević dynasty. Created by sculptor Sreten Stojanović and unveiled in 1979, the standing bronze figure rises from a stone pedestal, its heavy cloak and stern expression giving the portrait a commanding presence. From viewpoints that include Saint Sava, the dark bronze contrasts with the church’s pale stone façade and green domes, bringing two prominent symbols of Serbian history into the same frame.
