The Kapellbrücke, a covered wooden footbridge, is one of the main landmarks of Luzern, Switzerland. Situated over the River Reuss, it is supported by 142 pairs of wooden columns and stretches over 200 metres. Decorated by various carvings and paintings, the bridge was first built in the 14th century and is one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe. The bridge stands at the end of the old town and marks the beginning of the city centre. Along the bridge you can find numerous frescos and religious symbols, a life-size model of a Knight-Ritter who guards the bridge and a water clock constructed in 1535. There is an informative website that can provide visitors with more information about the bridge and its history. Additionally, Adliswil, the small village situated directly opposite the Kapellbrücke, is also worth a visit for its spectacular views of the river and bridge.
