📍 Indonesia
Kaolin Lake is a former kaolin-mining pit near Tanjung Pandan in Belitung Regency, now filled with vivid turquoise water and bordered by chalk-white mineral banks. The site reflects Belitung’s long association with extractive industries, while its man-made terrain has developed an unexpectedly striking visual identity. Curving quarry ridges, pale textures, sparse vegetation, and the sharp contrast between white earth and blue-green water create the lake’s recognizable, almost surreal appearance; calm conditions can also produce clear reflections along the sheltered edges.
