Kamienica pod Gwiazdą, the House under the Star, is a historic townhouse on Toruń’s Old Town Market Square. Although its origins are medieval, its richly ornamented Baroque façade dates to a remodelling in 1697. Floral and fruit motifs spread around the windows, while a gilded star crowns the decorative gable and gives the building its name. Seen from the square, the tall, narrow frontage offers a striking contrast between orderly window rows and exuberant stucco reliefs. Inside, a carved wooden spiral staircase adds another layer of historic craftsmanship. The house is now part of Toruń’s District Museum and displays Far Eastern art, including works from China and Japan—a different cultural perspective behind this distinctly European façade.
