Kaleiçi is Antalya’s historic walled quarter, set in Muratpaşa above the old harbor and surrounded by the modern city. Its name means “inside the fortress,” reflecting a compact urban fabric shaped by Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Narrow lanes pass restored Ottoman houses with tiled roofs, whitewashed walls, wooden bay windows, and shaded courtyards, while surviving fortifications and Hadrian’s Gate reveal older layers. Streets descending toward the marina create framed views of boats, stone walls, and the Mediterranean; from higher edges, the harbor curves below the cliffs, with the Taurus Mountains often visible beyond the city. The area’s strongest images come from contrasts between worn masonry, colorful façades, dense street patterns, and bright coastal light.
