Kaivopuiston tähtitorni, or Kaivopuisto Observatory, stands on a rocky rise in Helsinki’s seaside Kaivopuisto park. Completed in 1926 for the Finnish astronomical association Ursa, the compact white observatory reflects the city’s long tradition of public interest in astronomy. Its three rounded telescope domes create a distinctive silhouette above exposed granite and park greenery, with the pale structure especially crisp against deep blue skies or winter snow. The observatory remains in active use, so interior access is generally connected to Ursa’s scheduled observing activities rather than ordinary park visits.
