📍 Taiwan
Jiufen is a former gold-mining settlement perched on steep hillsides in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, above Taiwan’s northeastern coast. Its mining boom, particularly during Japanese rule, shaped a compact town of narrow lanes, stairways, and buildings layered against the mountain. Jishan Street forms the busy food-shopping spine, with stalls selling taro balls and other local snacks, while the stone steps of Shuqi Road thread between teahouses and red lanterns. A-Mei Tea House, with its dark timber façade and lantern-lined balconies, anchors one of Jiufen’s most recognizable views. Wider scenes across the stacked rooftops toward the sea reveal the dramatic geography behind the intimate street scenes.
