The Jardín Vertical at CaixaForum Madrid is the living wall that covers the cultural centre’s exterior, a vertical garden by botanist Patrick Blanc attached to the building on Paseo del Prado. It is visually striking because it turns a flat façade into a dense tapestry of layered foliage, juxtaposing wild, textural plant masses against the centre’s brick and contemporary architectural lines. The wall’s species mix and layered planting create a relief of shapes and tonal greens that read differently from near and far; photographers value the scale, repeating vegetal patterns, and the way light scours the leaves to reveal shadow and depth. The installation is publicly visible from the street and is maintained as a planted, irrigated system rather than spontaneous growth, so the cultivated composition remains consistent year to year.
