Jackson Square

Jackson Square is a historic public park in New Orleans, located in the heart of the French Quarter. The centerpiece of the square is the St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest Roman Catholic cathedral in the United States, which was completed in 1727. There are also two larger open-air plazas that contain statues to honor figures such as Andrew Jackson and Jean-Baptiste LeMoyne. The park includes an art gallery, more than 60 wrought-iron balconies and lampposts, and flower gardens. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, and is surrounded by some of the city's best bars, cafes, and restaurants. Notable landmarks such as Café du Monde, the Pontalba Buildings, and the formerly abandoned St. Anthony’s Garden are nearby.
