The Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture occupies the former Antrepo No. 5 port warehouse on the Tophane waterfront in Beyoğlu. Run by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, it holds a major collection tracing painting and sculpture from the late Ottoman period through the development of modern Turkish art, including works by Osman Hamdi Bey and İbrahim Çallı. Established in 1937, the museum originally occupied the Crown Prince’s apartments at Dolmabahçe Palace before moving to this waterfront setting. The warehouse conversion, designed by Emre Arolat Architects, preserves the industrial concrete framework while inserting distinct gallery volumes within it. The contrast between the exposed structural grid, enclosed exhibition spaces, and glazed areas overlooking the waterfront gives the building a visual identity rooted in both Istanbul’s working port history and its contemporary cultural life.
