📍 United States
Independence Hall stands on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia’s Old City, within Independence National Historical Park. Built in the 18th century as the Pennsylvania State House, it became the setting where the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776 and the United States Constitution was debated and signed in 1787. Its restrained Georgian design—red brick, evenly spaced sash windows, white trim, and a prominent clock tower—creates a formal symmetry closely associated with the nation’s founding era. The broad lawn on Independence Mall offers the clearest full-building view, while the Assembly Room provides the most direct historical context. The hall is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
