Illa del Portitxol is a small rocky island facing Cala del Portitxol, also known as Cala Barraca, on Xàbia’s Mediterranean coast. Its position beside a natural cove reflects the area’s long connection with coastal navigation; archaeological finds have shown human activity here across different historical periods. From the beach, the island forms the defining backdrop beyond clear blue-green water, often framed by the cove’s white fishermen’s houses and distinctive blue doors. Closer views reveal low Mediterranean vegetation, pale rock and steep edges, while the narrow channel between island and mainland emphasizes its compact scale.
