Igreja de São Tiago stands at the castle end of Rua Direita, inside Óbidos’s walled historic centre. Founded as a medieval church and rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, it now houses Livraria de Santiago, a bookshop that gives the former religious space a literary role. The white façade and stone-framed entrance form a distinctive backdrop at the upper end of the town’s main street. Inside, bookshelves occupy the lofty church interior, creating a striking contrast between the scale of the architecture and the intimate detail of books—a visible expression of Óbidos’s identity as a town of literature.
