Igreja de São Domingos stands beside Senado Square in Macau’s historic center, its yellow façade, white stucco ornament and dark green shutters forming one of the district’s most recognizable colonial-era scenes. Founded by Spanish Dominican friars in 1587, the church reflects the meeting of Portuguese Catholic traditions and local building methods, including a timber roof structure suited to the regional climate. Inside, carved altars and religious images lead the eye toward the richly decorated sanctuary, while an adjoining treasury displays sacred art. From the small square outside, the symmetrical façade contrasts vividly with the patterned paving and surrounding arcades; soft side light emphasizes its moldings and layered Baroque details. The church remains an active place of worship, so quiet and respectful dress are appropriate inside.
