The Iglesia de Santa María de la Paz is the church of a former convent on Calle Bustos Tavera in Seville’s historic centre. It is home to the Hermandad de la Sagrada Mortaja, one of the religious brotherhoods that sustain the city’s Holy Week traditions. The brotherhood’s name refers to Christ’s burial shroud, and its processional sculpture depicts the mourning around his body after the Crucifixion. The entrance courtyard gives the church an intimate, enclosed setting: the façade and bell gable are framed within the former convent rather than opening onto a broad public square.
