Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Nercón stands in the village of Nercón, just south of Castro on Chiloé Island. It is one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, representing an architectural tradition that adapted European church forms to local timber, carpentry, and island culture. Its tall central tower, balanced façade, wooden shingles, and deep entrance portico create a strong sense of symmetry, while the largely wooden interior reveals the craftsmanship behind Chiloé’s distinctive religious buildings. Overcast island light brings out the muted tones and textures of the weathered timber; as it remains a place of worship, visitors should enter quietly and respect services.
