A forest of 86 Doric-style columns forms the Hypostyle Room in Park Güell, devised by Antoni Gaudí as a grand marketplace. Overhead, brilliant mosaic medallions created by Josep Maria Jujol adorn the vaulted ceiling. The columns, tilted slightly to enhance structural stability, direct rainwater through an ingenious drainage system that supplies the park’s central square fountain. The space’s interplay of light and shadow creates a serene ambiance, perfect for admiring Gaudí’s organic lines and the panoramic views of Barcelona that unfold above. Gaudí carefully integrated architecture with nature here, capturing the essence of Catalan Modernisme in stone, ceramic, and light.
