The Hypostyle Room, also known as the Market Hall, is a fascinating architectural feature located within Park Güell in Barcelona, Spain. Designed by the legendary Antoni Gaudí, this stunning structure was originally intended to serve as a marketplace for the planned residential community that never materialized. The room is notable for its 86 impressive Doric columns that support a large roof. Each column is uniquely crafted, creating an organic flow reminiscent of a woodland landscape. The ceiling is adorned with intricate mosaics and medallions, embodying Gaudí’s signature trencadís technique, using broken ceramic pieces. The Hypostyle Room also serves a practical purpose, as its roof forms part of the public terrace above, known as the Greek Theatre or Nature Square, which offers panoramic views of the city.
