Hvar is a town on the Croatian island of the same name, built around an Adriatic harbor in Dalmatia. Its old center bears the imprint of Venetian rule in its pale stone buildings, waterfront Arsenal, and St. Stephen’s Square, where the cathedral’s bell tower rises above the surrounding roofs. Higher up, the Fortica fortress overlooks the harbor and the wooded Pakleni Islands beyond it. That layered view—boats at the quay, terracotta roofs climbing the hillside, and islands across the water—makes Hvar’s setting as recognizable as its historic streets.
