Hraunfossar Waterfall is a stunning waterfalls in Húsafell, Iceland, roughly an hour drive northwest of Reykjavík. Surrounded by some of the country's most stunning scenery, the 925 feet long series of waterfalls flowing across a black lava field is a mesmerizing sight. Hraunfossar (Lava Falls) takes its name from the fact that the water originates from a lava field, Hallmundarhraun. The best way to experience the beauty of the falls is to walk along the Baejarstaðarlaug geothermal pool. The pool is located on the north side of the falls and has various vantage points from which to observe the falls. Its shallow depth is perfect for wildlife observation and for photography. There are many trails that lead down to the valley below the falls, offering spectacular views of the Hallmundarhraun lava field and the Vatnsvötn lake. Visitors can also take a boat tour along the river to get even closer to the falls.
