📍 Ukraine
The Hor'koho Street waterfront lies along the central seafront of Berdians'k, a port and seaside resort on Berdians'k Bay in the Sea of Azov. Its setting brings together two longstanding sides of the city: maritime trade and beach-holiday culture. The low shoreline and broad bay create an open, horizontal composition, with the sea horizon rather than cliffs or hills defining the coastal scene. The central waterfront’s monument to the goby, a small fish celebrated locally as a source of food, gives the promenade a distinctive connection to the city’s fishing heritage. Russian forces occupied Berdians'k in 2022, an important dividing point between photographs of its familiar resort life and the city’s wartime history.
