Hooker Valley, in Canterbury, New Zealand, is an absolute must-visit for any outdoor enthusiast. Located within Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, it provides stunning views of the mountain range, as well as alpine lakes, suspension bridges and glacier-fed rivers.
The picturesque Hooker Valley Track has a moderate grade, making it suitable for all levels of fitness, and offers the freedom to go on as long as you like (just remember to turn around and go back). Here, you'll have the chance to take in some of the highest peaks unique to the Southern Alps, as well as the spectacular Mount Cook. Along the way, you can enjoy photos of hanging valleys, glacier-fed lakes, and waterfalls, with multiple opportunities to traverse across swinging suspension bridges. Be sure to also keep an eye out for the native black-billed gulls, often soaring above the riverbanks. At the end of the track, you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of Hooker Glacier, snaking its way down to Hooker Lake. Here, you can relax and soak in the beauty and tranquility of the park while marvelling at the panoramic views of the peak district.
