The Holy Monastery Great Meteoron, also known as the Monastery of Transfiguration of the Saviour, is one of the six functioning monasteries built on top of the Meteora rock formations in Trikala, Greece. It was founded in the 14th century and is the largest of all the monasteries. Visitors can access the monastery through a bridge connected to the main road. It is famous for its rich collection of medieval frescoes and icons, as well as its breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors must dress modestly and be prepared to climb more than 200 steps to reach the entrance. Photography is allowed, but flash photography and tripods are not allowed inside the monastery. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm and there is a small entrance fee. It is recommended to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds.
