Hochalm am Untersberg is a high-altitude mountain inn near the upper station of the Untersbergbahn, above Grödig in the Salzburg-Umgebung district. It sits on the Austrian side of the Untersberg, the prominent limestone massif straddling the Salzburg–Bavaria border. The setting combines rugged pale rock, alpine grassland and broad views over the Salzburg basin, with the city appearing small beneath the mountain’s steep northern face. Photographs from the terrace and nearby paths gain depth from layered ridges, drifting cloud and the strong contrast between the karst plateau and the settled lowlands. Weather can transform the scene quickly, from crisp long-distance panoramas to mist wrapping around the summit terrain.
