📍 From Bridge, Netherlands
The Historical Bridge in Nieuwegein, Netherlands is a landmark tourist destination in the quiet city. Spanning over the Upper Lek River and connecting the two halves of Nieuwegein, this bridge serves as a symbol of the growth and history of this region. The bridge is made of green Zaanse bricks and dates back to 1616. Its characteristic arches and its 4 rows of round-stone balusters adds a rustic charm to the bridge. It has been a part of the old fortification system of its time and is one of the oldest bridges in the Netherlands. It was used for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic until 1985 when it was converted for pedestrian use only. Visitors to the bridge are able to learn about its history, admire its architecture, or simply take a relaxed stroll across it.
