Heusden is an historic fortified town situated on the Berkel River in the south of the Netherlands. First mentioned in a 13th-century source, the 'Old Town' of Heusden resides entirely within the town’s former star-shaped fortifications. Now filled with fairytale-like architecture, the streets are lined with graceful gabled dwellings and a mix of medieval and neo-classical buildings, making this an interesting and picturesque area to explore.

The main attractions include the 14th-century Saeghalie Tower, located on the banks of the river, which was formerly part of the defensive works, and the nearby 18th-century fortress which includes a double city gate and a large drawbridge. Another point of interest is the Old 19th-century Watermill, located along the Berkel River in a tranquil setting. There is also a charming Family Park located on the grounds of the Former Hermitage of Sint-Monica, offering recreational activities, playgrounds and a petting zoo. Overall, Heusden offers plenty of unique photo opportunities with its numerous medieval buildings, city gates, drawbridges, parks, rivers and a stunning backdrop in the Dutch countryside. Visitors get to experience a quaint, time-capsule town, with its own separate identity, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
