📍 United States
The Hennepin Avenue Bridge carries one of central Minneapolis’s principal streets across the Mississippi River, linking downtown with Nicollet Island and Northeast Minneapolis near St. Anthony Falls. The crossing occupies the site of the first permanent bridge over the Mississippi, opened in 1855, though the present suspension bridge dates from 1990. Its paired pale towers and sweeping yellow cables form a recognizable gateway to the city, contrasting with the riverfront’s former flour mills, brick warehouses, modern skyline, and wooded banks. From riverside paths, the bridge’s cables create strong geometric patterns, while views from Nicollet Island place its broad span against downtown Minneapolis.
