The Heidelberg Palace, or ‘Schloss Heidelberg,’ is a partially ruined Gothic Revival style castle located in the German city of Heidelberg. Recognized for its grand architecture, it is widely visited by tourists and enthusiasts.
The Heidelberg Castle was built around the 12th century and expanded in the 16th and 17th centuries. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by successive wars and in the 18th century by lightning and continuous French bombardments. Although it is in ruins now, the palace still looks beautiful and offers a great view of the mountain range and Cathedrals that date back to the 13th century. The main gateway of the castle has the Darmstadt lion statue, dating back to the 16th century. The entire complex is a must-see for all visitors in Heidelberg. The gardens found inside the palace have many rare plants, and it is often used as a perfect backdrop in weddings. You can get to the castle via public transport by taking the bus no. 32 or bus no. 33. Otherwise, you can take a leisurely stroll through the old town and a scenic climb up the steps of the castle.
