Hassan Tower
📍 Morocco
Hassan Tower stands as an iconic and historic landmark in the city of Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Built in the 12th century as part of the royal mosque, the tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world. Sadly, only half of the original tower still stands, with the rest sadly destroyed in an earthquake in 1755. Today, visitors can still explore the grounds and the remaining tower, surrounded by beautiful gardens and palaces. Inside the tower, visitors can admire its magnificent marble and stucco decorations, and explore the lower levels of the tower that were not affected by the earthquake. There is also a tremendous view of the city and ocean from the top of the tower. To pay respects to the city's shared history, both the Christian and Muslim religions have a section in the tower, with scripture and other writings from both religions. Hassan Tower stands as an architectural reminder of Rabat's history and importance, and is worth a visit.
