📍 Greece
The harbor at Tourlida, a small lagoon settlement linked by road to Messolonghi, shelters the traditional local fishing boats known as gaitas. Their low, narrow wooden hulls are adapted to the shallow waters of the Messolonghi–Aitoliko lagoon, where fishing has long shaped everyday life and the surrounding landscape. Moored against simple jetties, the boats form an intimate scene of weathered timber, nets, ropes, and muted colors, often mirrored in the lagoon’s calm surface. The flat wetlands and open horizon give the harbor a distinctive sense of scale, while nearby fishermen’s huts on stilts connect the working waterfront to one of western Greece’s most recognizable lagoon environments.
